Duration
7-12 days
Difficulty

Trip Overview
Dhorpatan Wildlife Reserve is Nepal’s only hunting reserve and a lesser-known trekking destination tucked away in the western Himalayas, offering a unique blend of pristine nature, rich biodiversity, and traditional mountain culture. Located between Rukum, Baglung, and Myagdi districts, the reserve spans over 1,300 square kilometers and sits at elevations ranging from 2,850 to 5,500 meters. Home to rare species like the blue sheep (bharal), Himalayan tahr, red panda, and snow leopard, the area is also culturally rich, inhabited by Magar communities living in remote stone villages.
The journey to Dhorpatan takes you through rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, and dramatic ridgelines with spectacular views of the Dhaulagiri and other peaks. Due to its remote nature, the region remains untouched by mass tourism, making it ideal for trekkers seeking solitude, wilderness, and authenticity. A typical trip takes around 10 days from Kathmandu, involving a combination of scenic drives, off-road travel, and moderate trekking.
Whether you are a nature enthusiast, birdwatcher, or cultural traveler, Dhorpatan offers a serene escape and a rare opportunity to experience the raw, unspoiled side of Nepal.
