Trip Overview

Kathmandu Walking Tour is a day tour around Kathmandu city. This tour includes two major UNESCO World Heritage sites of Nepal-Swyambhunath Stupa and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

This heritage walking tour will lead you towards the local market- the Ason market, the old town and the oldest settlement of Kathmandu. Passing through local alleys, you will be encountering several Hindu temples and Buddhist monuments, and finally led to Kathmandu Durbar Square.

Kathmandu Walking Tour will take you to one of this old kingdom of Kathmandu alleys well-preserved old palace and numeral temples around with pagoda and shikara architecture. It is also a place for Living Goddess Kumari. So, you can also grab an opportunity to witness the blessings of the Living Goddess Kumari but taking a picture of her is strictly prohibited.

This guided tour will help you to understand every details of Nepalese history, culture and, art and architecture. One can have better understanding of Hinduism and Buddhism, their relation and the harmony between the people following them.

Further, you will be headed towards a hillock, where the monkey temple-Swyambhunath Stupa lies. The place is fascinating with a big Buddhist stupa and the Hindu temples around. Besides, hundreds of monkeys performing tricky and funny activities that added the beauty of the place.

The hillock is one of the view point of Kathmandu. You can observe the 360 panoramic view of Kathmandu Valley. In a clear day you can also see the beautiful view of the Langtang Himalayan Range. After this, take a walk towards your hotel passing through local Newari traditional village and finally to the hotel.

Detailed Itinerary

The tour begins in the vibrant Thamel area, where you will be picked up from your hotel. From there, enjoy a guided walk through the bustling streets of Thamel before heading towards the historic old town of Asan Bazaar and Indra Chowk, two of Kathmandu's oldest and busiest traditional marketplaces.

Continue your journey to Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Nepal's most significant cultural landmarks. Explore the magnificent Basantapur Palace, the sacred Taleju Bhawani Temple, the historic Freak Street, the House of the Living Goddess Kumari (Kumari Ghar), the impressive statue of Kal Bhairav, and several other ancient Hindu temples and courtyards that showcase the rich history and architecture of the Kathmandu Valley.

After exploring Kathmandu Durbar Square, walk towards the famous Swayambhunath Stupa, popularly known as the Monkey Temple. Perched atop a hill overlooking Kathmandu Valley, this sacred Buddhist monument offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Spend time exploring the stupa complex, watching the playful monkeys, spinning the colorful prayer wheels, and experiencing the peaceful spiritual atmosphere while receiving the blessings of Lord Buddha.

After completing the sightseeing tour, take a walk towards your hotel following the local Newari Community, marking the end of your memorable Kathmandu heritage experience.
