Treks in the Annapurna Region cater to all levels of trekkers, from short scenic hikes to challenging multi-week adventures. Must-visit spots that define the beauty and character of Annapurna Region.

A dramatic glacial basin encircled by Annapurna I, Machapuchare, Hiunchuli, and Gangapurna — one of the most spectacular amphitheatres in the Himalayas.

The most accessible panoramic viewpoint in the Annapurna region, famous for its breathtaking sunrise over the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges.

A picturesque Gurung settlement with traditional stone houses, a Gurung museum, and stunning close-up views of Annapurna South and Machapuchare.

One of the highest lakes in the world, nestled beneath the Tilicho Peak with strikingly clear turquoise waters in a remote, otherworldly landscape.

A less-crowded alternative offering intimate views of Machapuchare's south face and the Annapurna range through pristine rhododendron forests.

The gateway city to the Annapurna region, known for serene Phewa Lake, adventure sports like paragliding, and panoramic Himalayan views from Sarangkot.
March – May
The most popular trekking season. Rhododendron forests burst into bloom, skies are mostly clear, and temperatures are pleasant at all altitudes. Trail traffic peaks in April.
June – August
Heavy rainfall makes trails slippery and leeches common. Clouds often obscure mountain views. The rain-shadow areas of Upper Mustang and Manang remain drier and are still trekable.
September – November
The premier trekking window. Post-monsoon air is crystal clear, delivering the best mountain visibility. October and November offer stable weather, moderate temperatures, and vibrant Dashain/Tihar festival season.
Lower-altitude treks like Poon Hill and Ghandruk remain accessible, but high passes like Thorong La may close due to snow. Fewer trekkers on the trail and clear skies, but nights are bitterly cold above 3,000m.

All trekkers need an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and a TIMS card. These can be obtained in Kathmandu or at the ACAP counter in Pokhara. Budget NPR 3,000 for ACAP and NPR 2,000 for TIMS.
Above 3,000m, follow the golden rule — don't increase your sleeping altitude by more than 500m per day. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and watch for symptoms of altitude sickness (headache, nausea, dizziness).
The Annapurna region spans from subtropical lowlands to arctic-like high passes. Layer your clothing and always carry a quality down jacket, rain gear, and sun protection regardless of the season.
Domestic flights to Pokhara and Jomsom fill up fast during peak season (Oct–Nov). Book at least 2–3 weeks in advance. Morning flights are less likely to be cancelled due to weather.
Teahouse meals are hearty — dal bhat (lentil soup with rice) is the trekker's staple and provides excellent energy. Use water purification tablets or a SteriPEN instead of buying plastic bottles to reduce trail waste.
