Trip Overview

A Journey Through Nature, Culture, and Mountains

The Langtang Valley Trek is a stunning Himalayan adventure that combines breathtaking mountain views, rich cultural encounters, and serene natural landscapes—all within easy reach of Kathmandu. This moderately challenging trek takes you through dense rhododendron and bamboo forests, cascading waterfalls, and picturesque Tamang villages that offer warm hospitality and unique traditions.

As you ascend toward Kyanjin Gompa, the heart of the Langtang region, you’re rewarded with panoramic views of snow-capped peaks like Langtang Lirung (7,227m), Dorje Lakpa, and Yala Peak. The trail offers a chance to spot wildlife such as red pandas and Himalayan monals while walking through Langtang National Park, home to diverse flora and fauna.

The trek is typically completed in 7 to 10 days, with spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) being the best seasons, offering clear skies, stable weather, and vibrant landscapes. Optional side hikes to Tserko Ri or Langshisa Kharka provide even more dramatic Himalayan vistas.

Langtang Valley is perfect for those seeking a quieter alternative to the more crowded Everest and Annapurna regions, without compromising on natural or cultural richness. This trek is a true gem of Nepal, combining raw beauty, spiritual heritage, and unforgettable mountain scenery.

Begin trekking by crossing the Bhote Koshi and following the Langtang Khola upstream. Walk 6–7 hours through lush forests of oak, pine and bamboo, an area known as prime red panda habitat. Cross suspension bridges, pass deep river gorges and waterfalls, and enjoy birdlife and playful langurs along the trail. Overnight at a forest-side teahouse in Lama Hotel.

Continue 6–7 hours uphill as the trail climbs through mixed forest before opening into wider alpine landscapes. The snow-covered Langtang range gradually appears, with your first dramatic views of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m). Trek 3–4 hours through a broad glacial valley towards Kyanjin Gompa at 3,870 m. The route passes stone walls, pastures and Buddhist monuments as the scenery becomes more alpine. On arrival, explore the historic Kyanjin monastery and visit the Swiss-supported yak cheese factory. Surrounded by high snowy peaks, you can take an optional short acclimatization hike to Kyanjin Ri viewpoint. Overnight at a family-run lodge in Kyanjin Gompa.

Start early for a challenging 6–7 hour round-trip hike to Tserko Ri at 4,984 m, the highest point of the trek. The steep climb is rewarded with a spectacular Himalayan sunrise and 360-degree views of Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak, Shishapangma in Tibet and surrounding ranges. Traverse alpine meadows and glacial moraines before descending back to Kyanjin Gompa for a hearty meal and well-earned rest. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.
Full DayOvernight StayMeals Included
Retrace your route from Kyanjin Gompa back to Lama Hotel in 6–7 hours of mostly downhill walking. The descent offers different perspectives of the valley, forests and peaks you saw on the way up.
